Welcome to My Non-Sports Card Blog

Welcome!

I hope that you find this blog entertaining and worthwhile. I also hope that I'm able to keep it going with regular posts and updates on non-sports card collecting and information.

I think that the main focus of this blog will be on collecting non-sports cards from the past and cool/rare cards that may fly under most people's radar.

Growing Up in the Junk Wax Era

I grew up in the 1990's collecting mostly sports cards - baseball, basketball and football. My collection really started when I was probably in the 3rd or 4th grade. One of our school's annual fundraisers was to sell magazine subscriptions and you could win prizes by reaching certain sales milestones. Well, I sold enough magazines to earn a full set of 1990 Donruss baseball cards. From then on, I was hooked. I would get packs of cards as birthday and Christmas gifts, and on random stops to the store.

Anyone remember these tubes of cards? I used to get them for Christmas as a kid.

Of course, the majority of these cards are now worthless, as they were over-printed during what is now deemed the junk wax era of trading cards. Still, its fun to look back through some of those old boxes and card binders and bring back those nostalgic feelings.

I've recently started getting back into the trading card hobby. I've sold some of those "junk" cards and have been buying other cards to add to my collection. With the recent hobby boom and the almost impossible task of finding retail sports cards to buy, it's forced me to look for other opportunities.

Finding New Ways to Collect and Enjoy the Hobby

This research has been a lot of fun and has led to trying to find diamonds in the rough from the junk era, vintage cards, as well as non-sports cards. My current collection of non-sports cards is currently pretty small. I used to have a good variety of movie and music trading cards, but can't locate them now. I'm excited to start finding new cards to collect, learning and having fun along the way. I hope you enjoy following along and learning with me!

I came to realize that there's not many blogs or sites covering the world of collecting non-sports trading cards. And the ones that do are mostly focused on the modern releases. So, this void was part of the reason for starting this blog. Thanks for checking in, and stay tuned!
